Labouchere System (Cont.)

Next bet is four (3 plus 1). This time you win, so the line reads:

1/    1    1    2     3/

The bet is three units (1 plus 2), but odd shows for a
loss.

1/    1    1    2    3/    3

Now you bet four units and lose the spin.

1/    1    1    2    3/    3     4

Bet is five units, even shows; you win.

1/            1/         1         2          3/        3           4/

You drop back to a four unit bet and green shows, calling for the En Prison decision. My theory is to surrender half your bet, and add the two units to the line:

1/      1/      1    2    3/    3    4/     2

You then repeat the bet that was made. In this case, four. If it loses, add the 4 to the line. Suppose it wins. Merely deduct any combination of four units:

1/    1/    1/    2    3/    3/    4/     2

Your next bet is four, and you win. The line is complete.

          1/        1/          1/        2/          3/        3/         4/         2/

You end up with a three unit profit, but notice you had to lay out a five unit bet only once. The series produced one green, four losses, four wins, and still showed a profit of three units.

If you were to start with a line of 1 1, it would take a long losing streak to get you to a point of having to lay out large bets. I strongly suggest you start with 1 1  that is, if this is the money management method you decide to try.
As in the D'Alembert, be sure and preset a maximum limit you will bet. These lines can jump way up in a short time. I warn you that without this Loss Limit, you could get whacked good.

There's nothing wrong with setting a maximum betting limit of ten units on a line that starts 1 1.
Following are suggested maximum bets, based on the aggressive, or conservative style you choose:

1 1        .......... 10 units
1 1    1     10 units
1 1    2     12 units
1 2    1     12 units
1 2    3     18 units
1 2    3 4     30 units
2 3    4     40 units

If you are that aggressive that your line starts with anything over 1 2 3, you'd better be prepared to lay out some healthy bets. You'd better have the bankroll to start this heavy a line. For example, with the 2 3 4, your session money would have to be at least $500 before you even thought of taking on that line.

Don't forget, I am talking in terms of units, or $5 chips. The money at risk will be substantially reduced if you could play in Vegas at $1 minimum tables for the even money proposition bets.

But in any event, if you decide to try the Labouchere, start with the smallest line available, which is 1 1. You'll have plenty of time to graduate to the higher levels.
