Weak hands

This will be short and sweet. You already know the average winning hand is 181/2.

When you have seventeen, you have zero! Eighteen isn't much better.

What can you do with your seventeens and eighteens? Nothing. You can't hit them, and they are almost worthless in certain situations.

When I am playing Blackjack and get dealt an eighteen, and the dealer has a 9 or higher showing, I expect to lose. If I lose, I forget about it and concentrate on the next hand. If I win, I'm happy I got the bonus. But, I still concentrate on the next hand.

When a blackjack hand is over, it's dead! Don't fret about past hands you lost. And don't waste very much time patting yourself on the back for a hand you won.

Think only about the present. If your mind is occupied with ancient history, you might not be aware of current events going on right in front of you. As long as you make the correct moves according to Basic Blackjack Strategy, you've done all you can do. You gave it your best shot. Sometimes you'll win; sometimes you'll lose. Not even a twenty hand wins every time.
