The Big 4 in gambling
By John Patrick

Stop right where you are. If you have ever read any of my books, you'll know exactly what I'm gonna say in this article - and it won't hurt you to read it again.

The items listed will provide all you need to win at gambling. Of course you gotta have the intestinal fortitude to follow every step, but there is no question that here is the key to winning.
The front cover spells it out for you and each part of this book dedicates a section for each of the 4 things you need to win: It's called the Big Four:

1) BANKROLL
2) KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME
3) MONEY MANAGEMENT
4) DISCIPLINE

This is the whole secret to gambling, regardless of what you play. If more people would realize this and curtai, their gambling forays until they had these four items, It would' change the whole world of gambling as we now know it.

Guys like Imus Bettmore would control his ridiculous charge into a casino and wager within the confines of his own individual Bankroll. But this unthinking idiot, just likc the thousands of people like him, gambles - just for the sheer pleasure of 'taking a risk.'
They think that the excuses they give: 'gambling for fun condones the fact that they can throw money into games that will eventually wipe them out and for no other reason than they lack one, two, three or all parts of the Big 4.

If you feel I'm talking directly to you, then maybe I am. And if you think it makes me feel bad that I might be hurting your feelings, then put that thought out of your mind. I see stupid jerks at the tables every day, making ridiculous bets and moves, and it honestly gets to me. So if I've touched a tender spot, that's your problem. My intention is to make you aware of what a boob you are and maybe correct this illogical approach to gambling.

1) BANKROLL: This is your own individual decisión and is based strictly on the amount you set aside on a given day or week. If you plan a trip to the casinos and bring $300. with you - then every single decision you make that day, as to planned profits and losses, is based on that $300. A dope like Imus Bettmore cannot bet any more than what will be laid out for him. And if that disappoints him and restricts his so-called plans to let it all hang out ... than his problems are a lot deeper than what I can do for him. Bankroll is the beginning and sets up every monetary move you make. If you don't have the proper Bankroll, you can't and shouldn't gamble - period. Wait until you have the proper bread - the tables will still be there.

2) KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME: You gotta be perfect baby, not just good or pretty good or very good, I mean absolutely -perfect in your knowledge of the game you attack.

G. Ahsgood thinks he is a good blackjack player. He's been to every casino in the civilized world and has played blackjack for 57 years. He can pronounce blackjack in 14 different languages, spell it backwards, and name the 3 children of the guy it was named after. He also stands with a hard 15 vs. the dealers ace. He's a dope. Knowing the object of the game doesn't mean diddedly dang.
You could plop a 3-year-old cross-eyed urangatan at a blackjack table, deal him a series of hands and have his blinking key the decision as to whether he will hit or stand. Maybe he'll win 7 out of 10 hands. Does that make him an expert player? No way!

You gotta be absolutely perfect in your knowledge of the game you play, and even that will bring you to only a little less than a 50-50 chance of winning a hand.

The way I see people at these tables, I think sometimes I'd pick the urangatan to be my partner in a blackjack tournament. And that ain't just monkey jive.

3) MONEY MANAGEMENT: You gotta know every bet you will make following a loss and every bet you will make following a win. This part of gambling usually is the downfall of the majority of players. Mr. Gess Watt loves to play blackjack. He knows basic strategy, but when it comes to making his wagers, it's anybody's guess what Gess Watt will bet. His decisions are strictly guess work as to how he 'feels' he will do on each hand and has no planned pattern. He could play for an hour, win 32 hands, lose 13 and end up being out $250. Lack of Money Management. Guess what Watt will do! He'll blame everybody in the casino except himself. Money Management is the key to winning and the thing I stress in later chapters.

4) DISCIPLINE: The ball game!!! The whole answer to winning. Guts! It is by far the most important part of gambling. All of the other parts of the Big 4 are needed in order to compete intelligently, but the one thing that is hardest to acquire and to hold on to, is DISCIPLINE. It is what separates the novice from the professional. Discipline!!'

Get it - or get out of gambling. Later chapters will spell this out in detail and it behooves you to hang on every  word
There you have the Big 4. Each of the upcoming Sections will be dedicated to one particular part of the Big 4 and will contain it's own set of separate chapters. When you are finished, and understand the need for the Big 4 your job will be to get them and master them.
You will become a perfect player. Your losing days will not be totally devastating and your winning days will come more often, because you'll be accepting lesser amounts but getting them more often. Am I getting your attention?
