Splitting Blackjack Hands - 2's and 3's (cont.)

Eight times you will receive a breaking hand of twelve through sixteen.
One other time you will have an unappealing soft seventeen.
That adds up to 9 out of 13 times when you are vulnerable.

But, by splitting these same 3's when he has only a 2 through a 7, you are able to accomplish your primary objective of betting extra money against the dealer when he is in a weakened position.

When you draw to a single 2 or 3, there are at least three ways to achieve a double down situation.

    SPLITTING HANDS   2'S AND 3'S

For example, if you split 2's against a 5 ...

YOU DRAW YOUR NEW TOTAL
9 11, and you can double
8 10, and you can double
7 9, and you can double
6 8, and you can double
Ace Soft 13, and you can double

This demonstrates where the player, by splitting 2’s, has 5 chances out of 13 to draw a card that allows doubling down against the dealer's weak up card of 5.

Imagine you start with a $10 bet and are dealt a pair of 2's against the dealer's 5. You split the 2's, and craw an Ace to the first 2 and a 6 to the second. Since the rules in most casinos allow doubling down after a split, you would now have the opportunity to bet $40, rather than the original $10.

Work some examples on your own to become aware of the numerous possibilities to bet more money when the dealer is weak.
One thing to remember when you split your hand: When the extra cards are dealt, take care of the first hand and complete it before doing anything with the second hand. Don't delay the game or embarrass yourself by switching to the second hand prematurely.
