Surender
You must know what the term means, because it is a universal statement meaning to give up. Men do it all the time when they finally realize how useless and lonely they are and surrender to the gal of their dreams. This way they have someone to lead them around and make the decisions because us males have the inordinate ability to be truly hopeless unless the fairer and stronger sex does the thinking for us. Whether any male disagrees with my assessment is absolutely no concern of mine.
I have long ago realized that women are prettier, smarter, can take pain better, have more discipline, are better poker players, and have the enviable position that us men truly can't live without them. Maybe I'm tossing my hat into the wrong ring in the eyes of some men who haven't opened theirs (eyes) yet, but fact is fact. Yes, I went through the surrender process and have no regrets. just as the use of surrender in blackjack will have you having no regrets.
Why is that? Good question, glad you asked.
Because the term surrender is really not the devastation that some pin on it. It merely means to stop fighting the inevitable total wipeout and at least live to fight another day. In blackjack, you give up half your bet in situations that are titled heavily against you and then go to the next hand.
Here's how it works:
1. We'll say you make a bet of $10 ...
2. Cards are dealt and you end up with jack 6 vs. the dealer's up card of King ...
3. Are you in trouble? Is the pope Catholic???
4. If you refer to the mathematical equation for the available decisions, you get:
a. If you stand With that hard 16, you will lose approximately 77 percent of the time.
b. If you hit that hard 16, you will lose approximately 74 percent of the time.
It's like a choice between a fall from a twenty seven story building or falling in front of a train (a moving one). Both results will smart a little. So you resort to giving in or giving up or whatever you consider it, but you take a different route than the ones available normally. The casino calls it surrender. I call it salvation.
You tell the dealer you are surrendering your hand and she takes half of your original bet, in this case $5. She takes your cards and you are done for that hand. Critics criticize this move but that is why they are called critics, because they criticize almost everything they don't understand.
Admittedly you are giving up $5 Without a fight, but when you're in that much trouble any port in a storm. I don't have to get run over by a truck while walking in the road so that my shoes don't get mired in snow because the sidewalks weren't shoveled. I'll take the lesser of the evils and worry about my shoes the next day, just like I'll worry about the next hand when that time comes.
