The little three in gambling
By John Patrick

1) THEORY: I've been gambling since the Big Apple of New York was a little seed and have had more than my share of bad days and good days.

The hurt on those losing days rarely made up for the winning ones and yet I thought I knew about the games. I read every book put out and still got belted too often to mention. It was time for a change. I came up with my own "THEORY" as to how to gamble.

After you read about my approach, conservative as it's, you'll come up with your own theory or approach. This will be your opinion as to how to win. That's what I want you to have; a strong theory as to how to play. Maybe you'll like mine or maybe you'll deviate and come up with a different view. I don't give a rat's tail whether you play conservative or aggressive - just as long as you play intelligently and win consistently. Theory - it's an opinion as to how to attack a problem. Develop one that you are comfortable with and stick to it.

2) LOGIC: Ken Eyefite loses his girl to an all-state football player and wants to fight the guy to save his ego. Chances are Ken Eyefite will find out he can't. A more logical move would be to find another girl. But logic and love never seem to mix. And neither does logic and gambling. If you would take a logical approach to each facet of wagering, you'd see how the more intelligent move will turn out to be the most beneficial one.

Let's take a quick example with a football game. Ima Fan is a big booster of the Rhode Island Rosettes and bets that they beat the Buffalo Builys in the upcoming grudge match.* The Rosettes are 0-8 and haven't scored a touchdown in 4 years. The Bullys haven't lost in seven years and have set a worllds record of breaking the legs of at least 9 players in each of their last 17 games. lma Fan is betting on the Rosettes strictly because he likes them and not for any other reason. The logical move would be to bet with his head - not his heart. And so he continues to lose. Many players are victims of this illogical approach to gambling. If they wou ld sit back, analyze their play and bet only when the move makes the most sense, a whole new horizon would appear. But alas and alack, the gambling casinos are filled with players who will not apply logic to their play or their betting. So, the house continues to win. I want you to take a logical approach to whatever game you decide to concentrate on.

3) TRENDS: This is the third and most important part of the Little 3. This part of gambling should probably be added to the Big 4 since it is so important. Throughout the book, you will see me allude to trends.

In fact, to emphasize my feeling on TRENDS, you'll find the entire next chapter applies completely to this area. There you have the Little 3. Keep them in mind as you out together your attack plan. Each offers a strong element of input into the minimizing of losses. And that's a major point in your learning process.
